accidental WORLD : Top 5 Futuristic Dental Clinics #2

Hello all. I'm back with the second dental clinic enlisted as futuristic dental clinics around the world, the Brauner Wegner Priehn Dental Practice. It is located in Hamburg, Germany. The interior designer is J. Mayer H. Architects that did an awesome work featuring blue and brown plasterboards with polyurethane foam chairs.

Waiting area.

Examination and treatment cubicals.

A wall that seperates the waiting room from a closed examination room, which can be rotated away, transforming into a medical auditorium.

The name Brauner Wegner Priehn actually refers to the names of the 3 doctors that runs the centre, Dr. Med. Klaudia Brown, Dr. Med. Torsten Weigner and Dr. Karsten Priehn respectively. Among the services provided are mainly orthodontics (such as Invisalign braces, fixed or removable braces), treatment of TMJ disorders and also other basic dental treatments.

From left to right : Priehn, Wegner, Brauner.

It is such an inspiration, and oh did you notice about the rotating wall thingy? It's something like our future lecture halls in the new Kulliyyah which have retractable seats and all, providing space for examinations to be conducted. How cool is that!

But I still think KU64 beats this one, in futuristic point of view. About the services, I have no say :)

And to all that are facing end-block 2 examination tomorrow, GOODLUCK!

accidental WORLD : Roboville.

Something for amateurs by Japs.

Dental students like us, before qualified to treat real humans, we hone our skills on Manikins, right? Guess what. Japanese robot maker, Tmsuk and Showa University had developed a 5-foot-tall Japanese woman manikin instead of that boring, plain, ugly-looking ordinary manikin present in the current time.

What's so great about this female-manikin? Despite being very pretty (no kidding!), she can stimulate real treatment scenarios by opening and closing her mouth, turn her head, and the most awesome thing bout it is that she can say "Ouch! It hurts!" if you did something wrong, Ha ha.

She can also respond to questions like "Are you okay?". I wonder what she'll answer to that huh. This fabulous android can also have a gag reflex if you accidentally touch her uvula, and when her cheeks are stimulated, there are actually saliva-like fluid excreted! So suctions are needed.

Dentists can also practice to apply some fake Novocaine and ask her if she's okay. She will answer affirmatively if you did it right.

Too good to be true?

Why female, if you wonder? They say that it was designed that way as to let dentist-in-training to be extra careful and sensitive to female patients in the future. Touching her breast is a big no-no! Genius. I like their thinking.

Okay, okay, I know you are sooooo eager to see how this android looks like.

Prettyyyy, right? (duhh, absolutely if you compare it to the eyeless manikin), Haw haw haw.

Oh, have I told you her name? Beautiful as it is, her name is Hanako Showa. lol.

A must-have android yaw! :D

accidental FACT : Root Canal Treatment.

What is RCT?

Root canal treatment (RCT) is an endodontic treatment that involves removal of soft tissues that fills the pulp canal and filled with inert materials, so that the non-viable tooth can be retained in the oral cavity.

Although dentists numbs the tooth, most patients often hate the sound of the drill. Dentophobias! lol.

Potential Remedy.

Recently scientists had discovered a nano-sized dental film that contains alpha-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (a-MSH). It's only 1/50 000th of a human's hair! The function of this gel is that it can help regenerate dental pulp via increasing the number of cells that fight inflammation in pulp fibroblasts.

Instead of having to drill the tooth, just apply MSH-containing gels on adjacent to the affected tooth and voila! it may encourage the tooth to heal from inside. Research was done on mice teeth to prove it theoretically, and after approximately a month, the cavities that present before disappeared!

This may be a huge intervention in dentistry, and just imagine if in the future, this theory becomes clinically proven safe on humans, dentists might not even have to drill anymore! Who knows? lol.

Anyway, bare in mind that MSH only help treat cavities, not prevent them so don't you ever, ever dream to skip any toothbrushing schedule, ya?

Twice daily, at least :)

accidental WORLD : Trick-or-treat?

All Hallows Eve or Hallowe'en

Hallowe'en is a celebration with common activities such as trick-or-treating, wearing costumes, carving jack-o'-lantern, watching horror films, bonfires and etc. starting from October 31st every year. It's rooted from Celtic festival of Samhain (summer's end) and became a well-known American tradition, celebrated by all Christian countries.

Do you know what are the functions of the costumes? It's actually to allow passing through of spirits, and in order to ward off the harmful spirits, wearing of costumes and masks come in handy to disguise oneself as one of the harmful spirit! Haha.

So, "trick-or treat" is an ultimatum given by children who call on houses to solicit gifts at Hallowe'en in return for prayers for the dead. And nowadays people often give out candies to childrens who souls in early November.

We all know sugars are bad for teeth and a perfect chance of tooth decay formation! So what are the solution to this? In US, dentists are enlisted to join Halloween Candy Buy Back programme where all the extra candies that children don't need and parents don't want are collected by dentists, not for free, but in return of $1 per pound of candy.

That is totally awesome, if u ask me. Zero sugar is not good either, but in certain amount it's fine, and this is a way to keep the fun. All the candies collected will be donated to Operation Gratitude.

So there you go. Mind you, it's not the celebration that we are focusing on here, but the good deeds dentists are giving back to the community that we must adore, not just to treat problems that patients come to you with.
Tooth decay was a perennial national problem that meant a mouthful of silver for patients, and for dentists a pocketful of gold.  ~Claudia Wallis
Oh, just for fun, if I would have to wear a costume, I would wear this. Do want!

Haha, enjoy your weekend! xoxo :)
